MONTPELIER, Vt., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- The Vermont creators of "Bernie's Briefs," underwear bearing the face of presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, said the undies are "just a little bit of fun."

Vermonters Alexandra MacLean, Nick Sherman, and Todd Bailey are offering the undies, which bear the face of Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and his social media slogan "Feel the Bern," in both men's and women's styles for $15 each.

The skivvies were inspired by Sanders' stated preference for briefs during his appearance on Ellen and a Saturday Night Live sketch featuring Sanders -- played by Larry David -- complaining that he owns only one pair of underwear, while "some of these billionaires, they've got three, four pairs."

"It's just an opportunity to bring something fun into what is otherwise a very serious matter," MacLean told NECN.

MacLean said she and her customers aren't aiming to insult the self-described Democratic Socialist, rather they want to show their support for his issues in an unconventional way.

"This campaign is exciting, and they want to show support for him and his issues," MacLean said of her customers. "I think it's just a little bit of fun, and they appreciate that."

The Bernie's Briefs team said they currently have no plans to expand the line to include other presidential hopefuls.

"I think at this point, we're going to stick with Bernie," MacLean said. "He's a Vermonter, we're Vermonters, and that's really why we're doing this."

MacLean said 10 percent of the profits from the underwear will be donated to the Yellow Ribbon Fund, a charity supporting wounded U.S. service members.

As for Sanders himself, the candidate said he is tickled by the products.

"It's unbelievable. It cracks me up, it's unbelievable. I guess we have Bernie underwear now," Sanders told WCAX-TV.
