BUSHLAND, Texas, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- The smell of cooking onions wafted toward Frying Pan Road in Texas when a truckload of the vegetables caught fire on the interstate.

Authorities said the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 between Frying Pan Road and Atkinson were closed Tuesday outside Bushland when a tire blowout led to sparks shooting into the semi and igniting boxes of onions.

The driver of the semi was able to detach the trailer as onions spread across the roadway and drive to safety.

The accident was the second involving an onion truck in the past week. An onion truck near Greenleaf, Idaho, collided with a semi truck Thursday.
