KERMINCHAM, England, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- A British fire crew shared pictures from an unusual rescue resulting from a cow falling through a resident's pool cover and becoming stranded in the water.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue said crews responded Sunday to a Kermincham, England, home where a cow was stranded in about 4 feet of dirty water.

Crews used a portable pump to remove the water from the pool and a farmer used heavy machinery to create stairs from bales of hay and firefighters braved the approximately 1 1/2 feet of remaining water to help the bovine climb out.

"We are assuming the cow escaped its field and wandered on to the pool cover, thinking it was solid surface. Obviously, the cow fell through the canvas pool cover," fire crew manager Andy Hallworth told Sky News.

The department said the incident marked their second cow rescue in the past week.
