LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- A San Francisco-based eatery chain is headed for the record books after shaping 1,524 pounds of cheddar into the world's largest cheese sculpture.

The sculpture of a cheeseburger, created by eatery chain The Melt in partnership with cheese sculptor Troy Landwehr, was unveiled Friday in Los Angeles and was confirmed as a Guinness World Record holder for the largest cheese sculpture.

The Wisconsin cheddar sculpture, created to celebrate Friday's National Cheeseburger Day, measures 45 inches tall, 38 inches wide and weighs in at 1,524 pounds -- 599 pounds more than the previous record holder.

"The Melt added cheeseburgers to the menu in November 2014, and they have quickly become our most popular menu item," said Kerri Martin, vice president of marketing for The Melt. "As we approached the one-year anniversary of the introduction of cheeseburgers we wanted to pay homage to all things deliciously cheesy -- and put smiles on our fans' faces by breaking this record. We're happy to say we have accomplished that goal."
