Police probe viral pictures of cloaked figure in North Carolina

GASTONIA, N.C., Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Police in North Carolina are investigating pictures purported to show a cloaked figure dropping raw meat near a playground.

Pictures of the unknown cloaked figure went viral on social media with posters alleging the person was seen leaving raw meat near an apartment complex playground in Gastonia.

Gastonia Police spokeswoman Donna Lahser said officers were called to meet with the manager of the Hudson Woods Apartment complex about the photos last week, but investigators were unable to confirm whether the pictures were actually taken at the complex.

"It could have come from anywhere," Lahser told WBTV. "We don't know if this is some bogus prank someone is playing."

Lance Calhoun, director of operations for Southwood Realty, which manages the complex, indicated the picture may have been taken at the complex.

"We don't know if it's one of our residents with an interesting way of presenting themselves, or if it's a trespasser," Calhoun told the Gaston Gazette.
