Seattle police share video of traffic stop baby delivery

SEATTLE, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- The Seattle Police Department shared dashboard camera footage of a traffic stop that turned into a baby delivery assisted by police officers.

The department, which shared the video on YouTube, said Officer Anthony Reynolds pulled a vehicle over about 3:45 a.m. Sunday for speeding through a red light.

Police said the driver of the car pulled over and jumped out of the vehicle, shouting that his wife was in labor.

"That baby wasn't having any of it and wanted to make an early appearance, so our officers certainly earned their pay today," police spokesman Sgt. Sean Whitcomb told KING-TV.

Reynolds called an ambulance and set about assisting the couple with the birth. Officers Lorissa Johnson, Nicholas Kartes, and Jason Alvord arrived just in time to witness the baby girl being born.

An ambulance soon arrived to take the mother and newborn daughter to the hospital, where they were said to be doing well.

The couple sent the officers a note thanking them for their help.

"You helped deliver a precious gift," the couple wrote. "We are grateful."
