PISMO BEACH, Calif., Aug. 11 (UPI) -- A California man using a drone to film surfers at Pismo State Beach captured video of a 9- to 10-foot shark swimming only a few yards away from the people.

Dustin McCaslin, who posted the video to YouTube, said he was taking drone footage of surfers about 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Pismo State Beach when he noticed an odd shape in the water.

McCaslin said he initially thought the shape was a hunk of seaweed, but a lifeguard confirmed the shape was a shark measuring 9 to 10 feet long.

McCaslin said the lifeguard sent out a team to investigate the sighting.
