Whole Foods pulls pricy 'Asparagus Water' after viral mockery

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Bottles of "Asparagus Water" that were priced $5.99 at a Whole Foods store in Los Angeles were "made incorrectly," the store said.

The Asparagus Water went viral online after Marielle Wakim posted a picture to Instagram showing how the pricy product at a store in the Brentwood neighborhood was a mere bottle of water with three stalks of uncooked asparagus floating inside.

"Somewhere in L.A., Whole Foods executives are laughing at all of us," Wakim wrote.

A representative for Los Angeles-area Whole Foods stores said the product was a mistake.

"There's been some miscommunication around this product. It was meant to be water with the essence of vegetables and/or mushrooms to be used as broth (similar to a bone broth), which are typically made over a long period of time soaking in water," the representative told The Hollywood Reporter.

"The product was made incorrectly and has since been removed from the one store, Brentwood, where it was carried," the representative said. "We would love your help clarifying that this product is not available and was removed from the Brentwood store as soon as this issue was brought to our attention."
