Los Angeles police seek motorist filmed driving in reverse

LOS ANGELES, July 13 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Police Department is probing a cellphone video of a motorist driving in reverse for more than 2 miles on a busy roadway.

The footage, which was shot by a fellow motorist and released to the public by the LAPD, shows the Audi sedan driving backward in traffic for more than two miles on Mulholland Drive and Laurel Canyon Boulevard.

"This guy's going backwards on oncoming traffic! Amazing," a witness' voice says in the recording. Kevin Zanazanian, who recorded the video and posted it to YouTube, said the incident occurred about 4:45 p.m. Thursday.

"It definitely was a shocker for me," Zanazanian told CBS Los Angeles. "It was definitely like a movie and I just think either this individual had an argument or a fight or something or just possibly just wanted to be a cool guy."

Zanazanian told KTLA-TV he filmed the backward driving stunt "for safety purposes."

Police said the Audi driver could face multiple charges.

Sgt. Tito Mariano said the possible charges could include "reckless driving, unsafe speed, crossing double-yellow lines, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway."
