CARBONDALE, Ill., June 8 (UPI) -- An Illinois student and self-proclaimed "DIY Laser Guy" posted a video online of his latest creation: A 40-watt "laser shotgun" that can burst balloons and ignite wood.

Drake Anthony, 22, whose styropyro YouTube channel includes numerous laser creations including a laser sword, posted a new video to the site showing off his "laser shotgun," which uses a lens to combine eight 5-watt lasers powered by a lithium battery into a single 40-watt beam.

"There's no good reason for anybody to own something this powerful," Anthony says in the video, before showing off his creation's ability to burn through balloons and ping pong balls.
