Failed McDonald's proposal 'was a doofus move'

LOS ANGELES, June 3 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles man whose McDonald's-themed marriage proposal was rejected shared hidden camera footage of the fast food failure.

Michael Joseph, 30, shared a video on YouTube showing how he took his girlfriend, Ann, 23, through a McDonald's drive-through and revealed an engagement ring concealed in a Crispy Chicken Deluxe sandwich.

"This is a joke," Ann says in the video. "You're not serious."

"You can't ask me to marry you in a chicken sandwich," she says.

Joseph says he was aiming to "surprise" Ann, but she still does not accept the proposal.

"I met my girlfriend 2 years ago in LA. I've never been good at planning in advance which is why we wound up ending our first date at this exact McDonalds," Joseph wrote in the video's description. "She joked for months about how 10 years down the road I would probably propose to her in a chicken nugget box so I thought she would love when I surprised her this way. She didn't love it like the way I thought she would. We agreed to wait longer until it's time to get engaged."

Joseph said he posted the video online at the urging of friends.

"It was a doofus move by me that but it wasn't a tragedy. I couldn't care less if people call me dumb or not," he told nineMSN. "I think the people who know me understand. It's a humiliating, a little, I guess but I don't pay attention to stuff like that."

"There was so much going on in our lives I thought this would be so out of left field and she would have no idea," he said. "You hear about people going on elaborate trips to Hawaii and Paris and they know it's coming. This was more for the surprise. She had no idea that this would happen."

Joseph said he still hopes to marry Ann someday, but it will be a while before he attempts another proposal.

"I think it will be a little but before I do this again. It was an impulsive move," he said.
