PRATTVILLE, Fla., May 20 (UPI) -- An Alabama mother said her 5-year-old son brought a Waffle House to tears when he asked her to buy dinner for a seemingly homeless man and sang a blessing.

Ava Faulk said she and her son, Josiah Duncan, 5, went to the Waffle House in Prattville recently and the boy's curiosity was piqued by a homeless man who came into the restaurant.

"There was a man standing inside who was real dirty and had his bag," Faulk told WSFA-TV. "I said ... 'He's homeless.' And Josiah said, 'What does that mean? And I said, 'It means he doesn't have a house.'"

Faulk said Josiah insisted she buy the man's meal.

"He came in and sat down, and nobody really waited on him," Faulk said. "He just kind of sat there and Josiah jumped up and asked him if he needed a menu because you can't order without one."

The mother said the man was grateful for the offer of a free meal.

"He said, 'Can I have bacon?'" Faulk said. "And I told him, 'Get as much bacon you want.'"

Faulk said Josiah had one more surprise for the diners at Waffle House -- he sang a blessing over the man's meal.

"The man just cried. And everybody else in Waffle House was crying," Faulk said.

She said the incident will stand as one of her "greatest accomplishments as a parent."

"You never know who is an angel on Earth," she said, "and when the opportunity comes at you, you never should walk away from it."

Some residents commenting on WFSA's Facebook page said they are familiar with the man. They said the man is a regular customer at the Waffle House and is not homeless.
