New Berlin residents Joel Burger and Ashley King said they are billing their nuptials as the "Burger-King wedding," breaking with a tradition of putting the bride's name first in the announcement, as a means of embracing the nickname they've shared for decades. "After the man was finished with his motivational speech, he asked the two fifth-grade [student council] representatives to stand up as he wanted the students to applaud our efforts in helping set up his event. As soon as he said, 'Joel Burger and Ashley King,' he started to laugh out loud and pronounced we were 'Burger King,'" King told the The State Journal Register newspaper. The couple showed their good humor about the nickname by posing in front of a Burger King sign for their engagement announcement.
