Firefighters found two cats unconscious on the second floor of the home and they were removed from the building and treated using a pet resuscitation device composed of a plastic cone designed to fit over the mouth and nose of a cat or dog and a high-flow oxygen cylinder.
Both cats were successfully resuscitated. Firefighters said the rescue marked the second time the device has been used to resuscitate a cat during the past two months.
"The cats were taken by the homeowners son to The Cats Meow Cat Clinic in Oregon City for further evaluation and treatment," the fire department said. "The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time."
