YINGXIU, China, March 9 (UPI) -- Outdoor CCTV cameras in a Chinese city captured the moment a giant panda walked across an empty street at the crosswalk.
The footage, from Yingxiu in Sichuan privince, captured a rare in-town sighting of a giant panda, believed to have wandered from the nearby Wolong National Natural Reserve.
Officials from the reserve said the panda appears to be about 2 years old and in good health. They said it is rare for the bears to wander into urban areas and workers searched the area for the panda, but were unable to locate it in the town.
The panda's Thursday morning excursion came on the heels of a survey that found the population of giant pandas living in the wild in China has grown by 268, or 17 percent, during the past decade to an estimated 1,864.
