DORTMUND, Germany, March 2 (UPI) -- A German drunk driver, who followed a train into an underground tunnel and drove on the tracks to a subway station, said he can't remember the incident.
The 31-year-old man, an off-duty soldier, said he had been drinking at a nightclub before he drove his Ford Focus onto some railroad tracks and followed a U-Bahn commuter train underground to the Barop Parkhaus station in Dortmund.
The man drove about 2,600 yards on the track, officials said.
"I was in a nightclub, and like a real dummy I got behind the wheel," he told Bild newspaper. "After that, my memory's blank. All I remember is two policemen approaching me on the platform."
U-Bahn officials said service was suspended for several hours while workers attempted to get the car off the tracks. Officials said crews ended up pushing the car out of the station by hand.
The service interruption cost U-Bahn more than $3,300, officials estimated.
