Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe LOS ANGELES, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Los Angeles police said a YouTube prank involving officers being tipped off to a trunk full of "coke" that turned out to be Coca-Cola wasted police resources. The video, created by the Nelk Filmz prank group and titled "Coke Prank on Cops," went viral this week after the group filmed themselves sitting in a vehicle and being approached by police. Advertisement "I can't do this! We have a bunch of coke in the back! I'm sorry!" one of the pranksters says in the video. The police officers placed the vehicle's occupants in handcuffs before opening the trunk and discovering dozens of Coca-Cola cans under a blanket in the back of the sport-utility vehicle. The officers appear amused by the stunt and shake the pranksters' hands when they release them from the cuffs. "The cops were so cool about it, we didn't think they were going to be like that," group member Kyle Forgeard told CBS Los Angeles. "We thought they were going to get mad." However, the Los Angeles Police Department was not as amused as its officers. Advertisement "It is dangerous for the participants involved and a huge waste of a police officer's time," Cmdr. Andrew Smith told NBC News. "The public has a right to have their police officers working and not wasting their time responding to juvenile pranks." Police officials said they are concerned about potential copycats and warned the public such stunts could lead to charges of making a false report.
