CONWAY , S.C., Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A South Carolina man appeared in a mugshot with an extremely battered face due to a beating he absorbed after sexually assaulting his nephew's girlfriend, police say.
William L. Mattson, 52, was booked Jan. 1 into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for first degree criminal sexual conduct. By the time officers took his mugshot, Mattson had already been dealt a punishment by his nephew, who police say beat Mattson after finding him sexually assaulting his girlfriend.
After a New Year's Eve party, the nephew had brought his girlfriend back to his father's house, where Mattson also lives, according to Myrtle Beach Sun News. The nephew told police he briefly left and returned to the sounds of moaning emanating from a room he shared with his girlfriend.
The nephew said that upon kicking the door down, he saw Mattson on top of the girl before striking him repeatedly, driving him from the house.
Mattson returned as the nephew spoke to officers and contended that he and the girl were drinking after his nephew dropped her off. He said the encounter was consensual, but according to police, the girl said otherwise.
Mattson was arrested by Conway Police and booked into jail. No bail has been set.
