Man solves world's biggest Rubik's Cube in 7.5 hours

By
Danielle Haynes

LONG BEACH, Calif., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- It may have taken him the better part of a day, but Kenneth Brandon of Long Beach, Calif., solved a 17x17x17 Rubik's Cube, the largest puzzle of its type, in 7.5 hours.

Brandon completed the feat in a video he posted to his YouTube channel, where he offers videos of himself solving puzzles, giving tutorials and unboxing new gadgets. He actually solved the puzzle over the course of five days, focusing first on the center pieces, then moving to the outside edges.

Brandon estimates he's only the second person in the world to solve the cube after Aaron McDonald, the man from whom he borrowed the puzzle. The cube, which was designed by Oskar Van Deventer and consists of 1,539 parts, holds the Guinness World Record for largest Rubik's style cube.

You don't have to watch the full 7.5-hour video -- though, yes, it's available on his channel -- because he posted a 6-minute, 22-second time lapse of his accomplishment.

The time lapse video is included at top, but if you have nothing to do today, check out the full 7.5-hour video below.
