RUTHERFORD, Australia, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- An Australian firefighter dressed as Santa to hand out treats to kids was caught on video giving CPR to a man pulled from a burning home.

Firefighter Nick Carey, who was dressed in a Santa Claus suit, and his colleagues with the Telarah fire brigade were handing out candy to children Saturday when they noticed smoke coming from the window of a Rutherford home.

Carey and colleague Grant Norman busted down the door to allow two uniformed firefighters to enter the house and pull out a resident, identified only as Wayne.

Carey helped the other two firefighters carry Wayne to the front lawn, where the Santa-suited rescuer performed CPR alongside Norman.

The firefighters were able to resuscitate the man before an ambulance arrived, and he was reported to be in stable condition at John Hunter Hospital.

Firefighters said Wayne was lucky the Telarah firefighters were out distributing candy at the time of the blaze, as the station would have otherwise been unmanned and firefighters would have been summoned from their homes.
