CAPE TOWN, South Africa, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- A video posted online shows a South African beach visitor cutting open a dead shark to free the three live shark pups from her belly.

The video, posted to YouTube Monday, depicts a family walking on a Cape Town beach and discovering a dead shark with movement on its underside indicating that it might be pregnant.

A man then takes a knife to the shark's belly and frees three baby shark pups from their sacks inside the mother. The man carries the pups to deeper water, where they swim away.

"I think that is the coolest thing I have ever seen," one onlooker can be heard saying.

The pups should survive fine on their own as sharks are born with full sets of teeth and typically swim away from their mothers right after birth to avoid being eaten.

"This video is a good example of respect to all forms of life," the video's description reads. "A dead shark was washed ashore on the beach when a lady notices something strange. The dead shark was pregnant since there was some movement in the stomach region of the dead shark. She takes help of a beach goer who volunteers to help. He cuts open the shark and delivers the 3 baby sharks inside it. The baby sharks are alive and moving, so they put it back into the water."
