12 Days of Christmas cost jumps 1 percent

WASHINGTON, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- PNC has released their annual price index for the 12 Days of Christmas and the cost of making the holiday for your true love has gone up.

The cost of buying every item mentioned in the song would be $27,673.22. Buying items as many times as they are mentioned in the song -- 364 items including 12 partridges in pear trees -- would cost $116,273.06.

Online shopping would be more expensive.

"It would cost $192,470 to buy the 364 gifts online," Jim Dunigan, PNC's chief investment officer told ABC News. "Things like the Internet, Black Friday and doorbusters have changed the pace of the holiday. As online shopping became more popular we started an online version of the index, as well."

All of the human presents -- labor costs for drummers, pipers, dancers and milkmaids -- had one thing in common: The price of their services remained unchanged from last year. Good news for inflation control, not as positive in terms of stagnant wages.

The price of geese soared from $210 to $360, a staggering 71 percent increase from last year. Partridges, surprisingly inexpensive, increased from $15 to $20.

PNC consults with online outlets and other retailers to find the current market prices. Their latest research shows if people want to buy birds online for the holidays, it will cost them.
