Video surfaces of world's first bungee jump

David Kirke, the world's first bungee jumper, was arrested following the stunt at the Clifton Suspension bridge.

BRISTOL, England, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Video has surfaced a man clad in a tuxedo and top hat conducting the world's first bungee jump from a British bridge in 1979.

The footage, found and aired by the BBC's Inside Out program, shows members of the Oxford University Dangerous Sports Club conducting the world's first bungee jump from Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge April 1, 1979.

David Kirke, the first jumper, donned a tuxedo and top hat for his jump, which he conducted with a glass of champagne in his hand.

The video, which also shows a jump by club member Simon Keeling, ends with Kirke being loaded into the back of a police car.

The jumpers were released by police after promising not to repeat the stunt.
