Police: DUI suspect showed up for court drunk

Helen Chancellor was allegedly "highly intoxicated" when she appeared for her arraignment on drunken driving related charges in Pennsylvania.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa., Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Pennsylvania police said a woman who showed up "highly intoxicated" at court on a DUI charge was busted for public drunkenness.

Wilkes-Barre police said Helen Chancellor, 47, was "highly intoxicated" when she appeared before District Judge Martin Kane at 10:14 a.m. Thursday for her arraignment on multiple charges related to a DUI stop May 29.

Chancellor rode to court in a taxi, police said.

Police said Chancellor was cited for public drunkenness and held in a jail cell until she was sober.

Chancellor is due back in court Nov. 14.
