COLLADO VILLALBA, Spain, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Organizers of the "Survival Zombie" roleplaying event in Spain said some 2,000 people took to the streets to act out scenarios in the world of the undead.

The game, designed by World Real Games president Diego de La Concepcion, outfitted each human character on the streets of Collado Villalba with a passport, an identifying handkerchief and fake money to bribe other players who had not yet joined the undead hoards, The Local reported.

The game, which ran from 11 p.m. Saturday until 7:30 a.m. Monday, involved the help of about 150 staff, including workers in charge of make-up and zombie conversion as well as professional actors among the undead to keep the performances riveting.

De la Concepcion said "Survival Zombie" and similar roleplaying events give a boost to the local economy.

"The town hall pays a minimum that's multiplied by a factor of 15 in terms of the impact on bars and restaurants. Everything is sourced in local businesses, from t-shirts to theatre groups," he said.

The group said the next "Survival Zombie" game will be played later this month in Valencia.
