ALBUQUERQUE, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A man whose cloaked wanderings through an Albuquerque cemetery sparked repeated "Grim Reaper" sightings says he comes to pray for the dead.

The man, who identified himself only as "the Light Wanderer," told KRQE he visits the cemetery near Interstate 25 and Gibson dressed in his black cloak to pray for the dead.

"There is a place where sleepers sleep and dreamers dream and patiently await," he said.

The Light Wanderer, who described himself as a Christian, said he also wants to spread a message to onlookers: "The weight of time weighs heavy on our souls."

The man said he felt a "calling" to pray at the cemetery, where he was first spotted in August.

"If the message reaches one person, that one person makes a difference in preventing the death and destruction then it was worth it," he said.

The Wanderer said he does not want people to fear him.

"There's nothing to be afraid of except those who seek to cause harm, pain, destruction," he said.
