California mother apologizes for son's alleged car burglaries on Facebook

VICTORVILLE, Mass., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- A California mother went on social media in an attempt to teach her teenage son a lesson.

After Paula Hamblen's 17-year-old son was accused of taking part in numerous car burglaries over the weekend in Apple Valley, she went on Facebook to apologize for his alleged crimes and "stupid choices."

"I was crying when the officers ended up calling me letting know that this is what happened," Hamblen told CBS Los Angeles. "I was really upset because they said it was really terrible the things that they were doing."

The apology post was met with more than 100 comments, many of them praising Hamblen for her actions.

Hamblen is aware that the boy will likely be mad at her, but she really wants him to learn a lesson from the whole thing and hopes the very public humiliation will help with that.

Steven Edinborough's Jeep was one of the vehicles that were burglarized. He was appreciative of Hamblen's post. "I was kind of blown away for her courage to come out," he said. "At the same time, I was embarrassed for her son."
