"So he was kind of her accessory, so to speak," said Animal Control Officer Christina Sutherin, the Savannah Morning News reported.
"It's not every day we get to see such devotion between two special dogs like this," Sutherin said. "They are both such sweet animals. But the relationship they share just sets them apart."
The bad news is that Chachi's eye could not be saved.
The good news is that both dogs have been adopted -- by the same person.
The animals will be heading to Florida and the hope is that the pair will remain together in the Sunshine State.
Eight-pound Chachi has 65-pound Joanie to thank for his new lease on life.
