OAKLAND, Maine, July 15 (UPI) -- Maine police are searching for a pugnacious pig that scared two children last week before going after a woman who was walking in the woods on Monday.

Two kids were walking on a trail in a wooded area between two schools last week when the pig went after them. The animal was "screaming at the kids and chasing them," according to the Morning Sentinel.

The black-and-white pig, which is believed to weigh about 80 pounds, scared a woman on Monday and sent her scrambling to safety on a wooden bridge.

"She was not attacked but was very frightened and came to the station to report it," said Oakland Police Department Capt. Rick Stubbert.

OPD officers attempted to locate the ornery beast, but they were unsuccessful and only found its tracks.

In an effort to prevent further incidents, the trail where the pig was spotted is now closed.

"It's a public safety thing," Stubbert told the paper. "The pig is out there."

Animal control officers hope to trap the animal and return it safely to its owner.
