LONDON, June 24 (UPI) -- The English national team wasn't the only British failure during this year's World Cup.

A souvenir company mixed up English fullback Chris Smalling with U.S. President Barack Obama on a commemorative mug that was supposed to be sporting the Manchester United defender's likeness.

Unfortunately, the company ended up putting Obama's face on Smalling's coffee cup. Now the cups featuring Obama's mug are being sold by Wholesale Clearance UK.

"The apprentice claims that he used that well known search engine, Google, to source the pictures. The thing is he's more of a rugby fan and not very clued up on football," according to the description on Wholesale Clearance's website. "Suffice to say that when he Google image searched 'Chris Smalling' he copied the first picture he liked the look of and the result was that the President of the United States has ended up on an England cup instead of the English defender."

The lot of 2,000 cups are being sold for about $3,400.

"They passed this onto to their young, bright eyed and bushy tailed new apprentice. The designs were proofed and signed off by their boss, who had clearly had a heavy night with the lads playing poker and before he'd had his first vat of coffee the following morning," Wholesale Clearance Managing Director Karl Baxter told the Daily Mail.
