'Taco Day' food fight at Tennessee high school leads to charges being filed

LEBANON, Tenn., May 29 (UPI) -- A "Taco Day" food fight at a Tennessee high school led to misdemeanor charges being filed against eight students who participated in the culinary conflict.

The fight at Wilson Central High School in Lebanon started out with tacos being tossed, but ended with chairs and tables being thrown around the lunchroom.

"Food was just flying. It was like a dog fight with food. It was like a war scene," Wilson Central senior John Davidson told WSMV.

Four adult and four juvenile students were charged with disorderly conduct and vandalism after the incident and released to their parents.

"There are probably more charges to come," Wilson County Sheriff Robert Bryan told The Lebanon Democrat. "We are reviewing surveillance video. When it started, the majority of the students backed off, but these students continued to throw food."

Several of the seniors who were involved in the fight have been informed that they will no longer be allowed to walk at graduation and accept their diplomas.

"I think everything else we got is tolerable. You gotta do it. But walking the line, that's taking away something that's once in a lifetime, also," Davidson said.

"It was their senior prank. I don't think it was worth their not being able to walk the line. But the food fight was worth it. I can mark it off my bucket list," added junior Kelsey Shipp. "Their parents are pretty mad about it. I would be, too."
