ABERDEEN, Md., May 19 (UPI) -- Former pro pitcher Mitch "Wild Thing" Williams will be taking a leave of absence from his job at the MLB Network after he allegedly behaved quite badly at a youth baseball tournament in Maryland.
Williams reportedly ordered one of his 10-year-old players to bean an opposing player with a pitch and also used a poor language towards an umpire and children who were playing in the tournament.
"Mitch Williams has decided to take a leave of absence from his role at MLB Network at this time," an MLB Network spokesperson said in an email to the New York Daily News. "We are continuing to look into the matter."
The alleged incidents occurred during the Cal Ripken League tournament games.
The ex-relief pitcher denied swearing at the umpire but did tweet that he regretted what happened at the tournament and offered an apology.
I did not curse at the umpire & will walk away in the future. Again, I apologize.
