'Piece/Peace' typo on Gorman McCracken Volkswagen-Mazda's billboard leads to literacy donation

LONGVIEW, Texas, May 6 (UPI) -- A typo on a Texas billboard will end up netting a state literacy organization a nice donation.

The billboard in Longview advertising Gorman McCracken Volkswagen-Mazda was put up six months ago and it took a little while for the car dealership to realize they had made a mistake.

The ad, which is supposed to read “Peace of Mind Warranty on ALL MAKES,” says “Piece of Mind Warranty on ALL MAKES.”

General Manager Travis Potter said the error went unnoticed because the sign doesn’t face the dealership.

“The sign is an unusually big sign with it being the old movie theater sign so people did come in and tell us about it and everything. So we’re taking care of the situation,” Potter told KLTV.

Instead of spending $250 to fix the sign, Gorman McCracken will make a donation to the East Texas Literacy Council.

“We’ve had several people complain on it and we realize our mistake,” Potter said. “And, instead of fixing the sign we’re just going to donate what we would spend to fix the sign to the East Texas Literacy Council.”
