KANSAS CITY , Mo., May 2 (UPI) -- A Missouri second grader claims that he was put in handcuffs at his school Wednesday because he was acting up after other students teased and taunted him.

According to Kalyb Primm Wiley, teachers at his Kansas City school couldn’t calm him down or get him to stop shouting, so they had a security officer take him to the principal’s office in handcuffs.

"Some of the kids were messing with me," Wiley told KSHB. "We were halfway down the hall, he put handcuffs on and twisted my wrists a little.”

When the boy’s father arrived at the school to pick up his son, he found him in handcuffs.

"I don't think any 7-year-old should be in handcuffs unless he was armed with a weapon, or violent," said Kalyb’s mother, Tomesha Primm.

The district said the officer followed proper procedures and that handcuffs are only used on children “as a last resort.”

Regardless, the Wileys say their son will soon be going to school in another district.
