SANS SOUCI , Australia, April 21 (UPI) -- Two Australian men were able to stop a savage dog attack on a 90-year-old woman by using a six-pack of Victoria Bitter beer as a weapon.

The woman, Irene Koutsounadis, is in critical condition after being brutalized by her daughter's American pit bull terrier, but it would have been much worse if it had not been for Justin Innes and his son Jacob.

The men were on their way to a Good Friday dinner when they saw the canine with a “vice-like grip" on Koutsounadis.

"We thought the screaming was a fight or something so we did a light jog around the corner and there was a dog basically chewing a lady's face off. I've never seen so much blood," the elder Innes told the Brisbane Times.

"I gave my son the six-pack I was carrying and told him to stay back but the dog was going crazy. I was hitting it but I had nothing, so I told my son to give me a beer and I hit it with that. Then he came and hit it with the rest of the six-pack."

The six bottles of Victoria Bitter were able to subdue the dog.

"My dad was a bit upset because it was his six-pack," the younger Innes said of his father. "I said it’s all good, I’ll buy him a case."

The dog is going to be euthanized.
