The terrified owner of Oreo, a black Labrador retriever, called 911 when her beloved pet fell over a 90-foot cliff along the coast of Sonoma, Calif., on Saturday.

Oreo, out on a walk with her owner, fell about 40-feet down the cliff face. Sonoma sheriff's deputies, who weren't able to convince Oreo to climb back up, decided to bring in their Henry-1 helicopter to rescue her.

“It was kind of like a billy goat trail the dog went down. Even the dog realized it was dumb move,” Capt. Todd Rollings, of the Bodega Bay Fire Protection District, told the Press-Democrat.

Deputy Henri Boustany tied himself to a 100-foot line off the helicopter and descended the cliff face to pick up Oreo, who carried him to safety.

“The dog and I got to know each other real quick,” Boustany said. “I think the dog just wanted to be out of there.”
