BEIJING, March 10 (UPI) -- Photos published on Weibo, a Chinese website similar to Twitter, depict a man being bitten on the lips by a turtle he was apparently setting free.

The pictures, which depict what was mocked by some Internet users as a "passionate kiss goodbye," show the man being bitten by what appears to be an alligator snapping turtle, a species native to North America, Shanghai Daily reported Monday.

Guangzhou Daily reported the pictures show the turtle apparently being set free following the bite. There was no word Monday on the extent of the man's injuries.

Alligator snapping turtles are not native to China and are considered dangerous to the country's ecosystem. A turtle of the species was found in 2010 in Weishan Lake in southern Anhui province.
