ATLANTA, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Atlanta police said they arrested a woman who posed as a Waffle House manager to steal cash and later came back to return the money.

Atlanta Police Officer Kim Jones said Katie Marie McCrary, 35, of Decatur, wore a Waffle House uniform when she went to the Atlanta restaurant early Wednesday and identified herself as an area manager, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Friday.

Police said the woman inspected the restaurant in a style consistent with an area manager, but employees called police after she left and they discovered about $100 cash was missing from a register, Jones said.

Jones said McCrary returned to the eatery later the same morning and told workers she wanted to return the stolen cash. Police were called and McCrary was arrested on a misdemeanor count of theft by taking.

Police said they do not believe McCrary has ever worked for any Waffle House location.
