SUMTER, S.C., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Police in South Carolina said they were called to an Applebee's restaurant on a report of a customer attempting to use a $1 trillion bill.
Sumter police said Applebee's staff called police last week to report Michael Williams, 53, offered to pay for his meal with a $1 trillion bill after his debit card was declined, WIS-TV, Columbia, reported Monday.
The United States has never issued a $1 trillion bill.
Officers determined Williams was wanted in an unrelated contempt case. He was arrested and sentenced to probation and $262 in court fees.
Police said the investigation into Williams' alleged use of the phony currency was ongoing.
