BRUSSELS, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Two pandas were welcomed Sunday by Belgium Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo at the Brussels Airport after arriving on a flight from China, officials said.

The animals were transferred to Pairi Daiza animal park in Hainaut province from China, FlandersNews.be reported.

Di Rupo and the Chinese ambassador to Belgium were on hand at the airport for the arrival. Another 2,000 people waited at the animal park.

"We won't be able to catch a real glimpse of the animals, because we don't want to give them any stress. However, it will be shown on a big screen how they will leave their cage," a school teacher identified only as Kim said.

The two pandas, Hao Hao and Xing Hue are scheduled to be put in quarantine and are expected to be on exhibit at the animal park for 15 years, the news website said.
