MOSCOW, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- An amateur astronomer in Russia named an asteroid moving through the solar system after "Twilight" actor Robert Pattinson.

The 1.4-mile wide asteroid was officially named 246789 Pattinson in a registry published Wednesday by the International Astronomical Union after being spotted by Timur Kryachko, RIA Novosti reported.

Kryachko, who saw the rock with his Astrotel telescope, was not the first person to discover the asteroid -- it was originally seen on February 24, 2009, at which point it was named 2009 DM89 in the registry.

Pattinson, a British actor, is best known for his role as vampire Edward Cullen in the "Twilight" films.
