Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe PARIS, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A French man admitted to a jewelry theft in Paris after DNA evidence from a kiss on a woman's cheek singled him out as the thief, police said. The 20-year-old man, identified as Pierre G., followed a 56-year-old employee of a jewelry store to her home and he and an accomplice bound her to a chair, gagged her and poured petrol over her head until she told them the codes to the store's alarm system and safes, investigators said. Advertisement One of the two suspects then went and stole money and jewels, the Daily Telegraph reported this week. Hours later, one of the kidnappers untied the shocked woman. "This hoodlum planted a kiss on her cheek, apparently in a sign of compassion after the terrible ordeal she'd just been through," a police spokesman said. After she was released, the woman called police and told them what had happened. A forensic team swabbed the area on her cheek the suspect had kissed and found the Pierre G.'s DNA, which was registered in a national genetic database. PIerre G., who was in prison on other charges, admitted he was involved in the jewelry store theft, which had occurred months earlier, police said. Advertisement His accomplice was being sought.
