The reports surfaced in Cryptozoology News, a publication that tracks purported sightings of yetis, mermaids, leprechauns and other mythical creatures. Advertisement A 20-year-old man in the Shaftsbury, Vt., area claims he saw a tall man-like beast cross the road ahead of him about 5:40 p.m. Jan. 19, the publication reported. "There was an awful smell in the air. My dog kept barking," the man, identified only by the initials J.H, said, adding a few seconds later his dog became fearful and cowered behind him. "That's when I thought that something wasn't right. The odor got more intense. I couldn't believe it, I see what looks like a guy in a white costume or something, running across the road, towards the woods, but he -- or it -- was in no hurry." The man conceded it could have been someone in a costume, but he wondered "what the hell would a man be doing playing a hoax in the cold?" An unidentified construction worker in the Litchfield, Maine, area told the publication he saw a "white Bigfoot" on Christmas Eve. Advertisement M.P. told Cryptozoology News he was taking his dog for a walk, when it "went nuts." The man said visibility was low, "but I ain't blind, man, I know what I saw and my dog got out of control barking at it ... ." "It moved fast and like a human. It was fat, huge, and it had white long hair everywhere," he said. "Looked like a white Bigfoot or something, no kidding. "I never thought I'd get to see something like this," the report stated. "I've always laughed at all these Bigfoot nuts, I had my reasons. Now I guess I'm the crazy one here. Unless it was a very good hoax played on me, that could be, but I tell you again, it ain't easy for a man to make those kind of moves. That didn't look human to me." Some Litchfield residents weren't so sure, WMTW-TV, Portland, Maine, reported Saturday. "Most likely, it's one of the big hairy guys around here, roaming around," local resident Percy Gowell said.
