WHITEHALL , Ohio, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- A Columbus couple wasn’t planning on getting engaged when they went to the Walmart in Whitehall, Ohio, but the groom-to-be had a burst of inspiration while he was standing near the jewelry counter.
While his girlfriend, Ashley Whisonant, was in another section of the store, Marvin Banks saw his chance to use the store’s loudspeaker system and he went for it.
"Next thing I know, I hear over the intercom, Attention Walmart Customers," Whisonant said. "He said, ‘You mean the world to me, I love you. I want to spend the rest if my life with you, and that's why I'm going to ask you this.’ And he got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. He did it all over the intercom."
Whisonant started crying and accepted Banks’ proposal.
"I just did it today to surprise her," Banks said. "Try to get a little surprise."
While she never expected to get engaged at Walmart, Whisonant now feels like she was on the receiving end of the perfect proposal.
"I think this proposal tops all proposals," Whisonant said.
