Goodwill worker finds more than $40,000 cash in donation

MONROE, Mich., Jan. 31 (UPI) -- A Michigan thrift store worker who found $43,100 in $100 bills among donations said his "biggest concern" was returning the cash to its owner.

Tyler Gedelian, 29, manager of the Monroe Goodwill store, said he was shocked while sorting through a recent donation to find the mass amount of cash and a wallet bearing an old identification card, the Monroe Evening News reported Friday.

"We might find a quarter in somebody's jeans," Gedelian said. "But that blows my mind."

He said he didn't even count the money before calling police.

"My biggest concern was getting the money back to the rightful owner," he said. "I certainly can't imagine losing that kind of money. I was so nervous having so much of someone else's money."

Police were able to find the man who made the donation. The man, who did not want to be named, said he donated the contents of an elderly relative's closet and did not know the cash was stashed among the clothes.

"I am really proud of those people at Goodwill," the man said. "It makes me feel good there are people out there like that, especially in this day and age."
