AACHEN, Germany, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- A German condom company said condoms stolen from an exploded vending machine are likely to be unsafe and should not be used.

Police in Aachen, Germany, said a resident heard a loud bang late Sunday night and investigated to discover a condom vending machine had been blown up, TheLocal.de reported Wednesday.

Investigators said they do not know the amounts of condoms and cash taken by the thieves.

A spokeswoman for Ritex, the manufacturer of the condoms, said the stolen condoms should not be used.

"The condom packaging is likely to have been damaged by the explosion," she said. "As soon as the packaging is damaged, the condoms are no longer safe."
