Wanted: Crocodile handler, no experience necessary

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Wildlife officials in Florida said they are seeking applicants for a crocodile handling position with no experience necessary.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the job pays $25 per hour and will consist of responding to complaints of nuisance crocodiles in Miami-Dade County and the Upper Keys, where the number of complaints has recently risen, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Thursday.

The chosen applicant would be responsible for capturing and relocating crocodiles in some areas, as well as explaining to residents in areas designated as crocodile habitats that the reptiles are there to stay.

"It's not an Animal Planet type job," said Lindsey Hord, coordinator of the nuisance alligator and crocodile program for the FWC. "We're looking for somebody who's low-key and non-confrontational."

The agency said experience is preferred but not necessary as the agent would receive on the job training from an experienced croc handler.
