Iranian man hasn't bathed in 60 years

DEJGAH, Iran, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- An 80-year-old Iranian man said he has not bathed in 60 years and prefers to smoke animal droppings from his pipe instead of tobacco.

Amou Haji of Dejgah, in southern Iran, said emotional setbacks he suffered early in life led him to embrace filth as a lifestyle, the Indo-Asian News Service reported Wednesday.

Haji told the Tehran Times he drinks 1.3 gallons of water per day from a rusty oil can, prefers rotten porcupine meat for his meals and cuts his hair by setting it on fire. He said he fears cleanliness would cause him to fall ill.

The Indo-Asian News Service said Haji's record for not bathing surpasses that of Guru Kailash Singh, 69, of Varanasi, India. Singh stopped bathing in 1974, shortly after his wedding, because a priest told him refusing to bathe would bring him a son.

However, the priest's prediction did not pan out and Singh now has seven daughters.
