OSLO, Norway, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Norwegian officials said they are seeking submissions to replace farikal, a boiled lamb and cabbage stew, as the country's official dish.
Sylvi Listhaug, the country's food and agriculture minister, announced Friday officials are seeking submissions to become Norway's new official national dish as part of the country's celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian constitution being signed, TheLocal.no reported Monday.
"I asked myself, what we are extremely proud to serve in Norway in 2014? And what are the various regions' signature dishes right now?" Listhaug said.
Farikal was chosen as Norway's official national dish following a televised competition in 1972.
Listhaug said submitted dishes must have a main ingredient from Norway, ruling out favorites including ham and falafel.
