LONDON, Ontario, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- The latest Internet-inspired craze sweeping Ontario farmers is the taking of "felfies," a self-shot photograph taken by a farmer.
The felfies -- named as a combination of "farmer" and "selfies," which was the Oxford Dictionary's 2013 world of the year -- have taken off on Twitter among farmers who say the photos they take of themselves doing their work are a show of pride, the Toronto Sun reported Friday.
"Regardless of the weather conditions, most livestock guys do a pretty good job of taking care of their animals," said farmer Les Nichols, whose felfie depicts a herd of beef cattle standing in the background of his self-portrait.
The felfie movement was launched by the Irish Farmers Journal, which announced a contest a couple of weeks ago for self-shot pictures of farmers with livestock in the background, Time magazine reported.
The trend has also spun off into felfie-themed websites including felfies.com and farmingselfies.com.
